Match Report Cup 16/02/08 v Biggar
Whitecraigs overcome by Biggar
Whitecraigs faced Biggar, 3rd top of Premier 2 in the Cup at West Lodge and found the superior opposition too much to handle. The four division gap between the sides showed with Biggar’s speed of mind, pace and ability to offload the ball in the tackle making the difference between the sides.
It did not help when Craigs gifted Biggar a 17 point start in the opening 15 minutes and could only reply with a penalty from Ally Little. However once the home side settled they started to compete in all areas of the game. In particular the forwards never took a step backwards and made a lot of ground with pick and drives. The home backs tried to attack but found it difficult against a well organised defence. Biggar counter attacked from Craigs mistakes and continued to score points. The half tine score was 24 -8 to Biggar with the Whitecraigs try scored by Gavin Mahindru.
The second half was played at pace with both sides attacking at every opportunity but it was Biggar who continued to keep the scoreboard moving and finished the game worthy winners by 52-8. It was an entertaining game to watch and if Biggar continue this form they will be in the mix for promotion to Premier 1 right up to the last day. Good luck to Biggar for the rest of the season.
Whitecraigs can take a lot of credit from the game for their fitness, commitment and skill level. They must maintain this momentum to achieve promotion with only three games remaining.
