HORRENDOUS playing conditions threatened to disrupt Whitecraigs’ title charge but another accomplished performance saw them through.
Despite wind and rain sweeping across West Lodge ‘Craigs demolished a vastly under strength Duns side.
The Borders team are currently propping up the division and with ‘Craigs aspirations at the other end of the table they duly romped to a comprehensive victory.
It all started after only five minutes when great interplay between Moffat and Hutton let winger Emans slide in at the corner.
And it was not long before Hutton bagged the first of his brace of tries as ‘Craigs went about securing the crucial bonus point before the interval.
Excellent handling in the backs saw Hutton under the posts and then more intricate play let him slide in to make it 19-0 after only 20 minutes.
Whitecraigs showed no mercy to their beleaguered opponents and a slick training ground move put Fisher over for a score.
And the full back added to his personal tally moments later when Emans broke from his 22-metre area and released him over the line.
Conditions worsened after the interval but still ‘Craigs were ambitious and went hunting for more points.
First Fisher completed his hat trick and then captain Moffat made a storming run down the wing and slid in at the corner.
Tries from Laidlaw and Clark kept the scoreboard ticking but the pick of the tries was saved until last.
A majestic cross-field kick by Stevenson was collected by Farrell who touched down to the delight of the crowd.
The final score of 56-0 left head coach Jim Henderson delighted and looking forward to next weeks top of the table clash against Lenzie.
He said: “With a number of players rested it was a good solid performance and all credit to Duns who contested the game right to the end.
“Next week we will look to get all the support we can as we start to challenge this league.”
