RAMPANT Whitecraigs ran riot over a hapless Greenock on Saturday in a 10-try bonanza to maintain their 100 per cent record.

The visitors came to West Lodge looking to avenge a Scottish Cup shut out from last season, but Craigs were in no mood for niceties, and for the third time in as many games restricted their opposition to a single-figure score.

It was Wanderers who started the stronger, though, and the visitors forced a penalty straight from the kick-off which stand-off Devlin was unable to convert.

From then on, the home side started to find their groove and raced into a 17-0 lead with tries from Howarth, Ben Blamire and Moffat after just half an hour.

A Devlin penalty reduced the deficit, but just as it looked like Wanderers were starting to get a foothold in the game, Whitecraigs struck again.

A forceful run from the Whitecraigs prop Campbell secured the home team the bonus point before the break with the score at 24-3. In the second half, Craigs started to run everything and with Greenock missing tackles it was only a matter of time before the game was put out of sight.

The lead was extended as Craigs ran in four quick-fire tries from Ben Blamire, Fisher and two for Moffat, bringing up the half century and eclipsing last week’s 40-point haul against Highland.

With 15 minutes to go Wanderers thought they had a consolation try of their own to celebrate when Clark intercepted in midfield and made a sprint for the line. But the dash was cut short when the referee called play back for offside, much to the dismay of the demoralised players and travelling support.

However, Whitecraigs showed more composure in the closing stages and Moffat and Little added another two scores to record the dominating final tally of 62-3.

Top of the table Whitecraigs look to continue their impressive start to the season with a trip to Hillfoots next week.
