A CRUSHING victory sent Whitecraigs into dreamland when they finally secured the long awaited league title on Saturday.
The West Lodge men made the long trip north to take on mid-table Caithness knowing that a win would put them 19-points clear at the top.
And finishing the weekend on 92 points ensured that the chasing pack have no hope of overtaking Craigs who can now look forward to pitting their wits in national league division one next season.
The team made the gruelling eight hour journey to Thurso on Friday evening to ensure that they were ready for the challenge ahead.
But when it came to game time the weather had turned foul with heavy rain squalls and fierce wind from one end of the pitch to the other.
Despite Caithness having an early penalty opportunity, which they squandered, it was Craigs who were on the front foot early on.
After just 20 minutes Craigs worked themselves deep into opposition territory and Nicol Smyllie charged down a clearance kick to run in under the posts unchallenged.
Leading 7-0 into the break Whitecraigs began the second half with renewed vigour, determined to rack up more points to clinch the title.
A flurry of tries just minutes into the half gave Craigs the bonus point and the celebrations were already starting.
First, captain Ryan Moffat dived over for a score, before stand-off Ally Stevenson went between the posts after intercepting in midfield.
And when the Caithness defence failed to deal with a bullocking run from Ian Laidlaw, the prop celebrated a rare, but crucial, try.
The final try went to Moffat who converted to conclude the day's scoring at 33-0.
At the final whistle there was jubilation from the Whitecraigs players and their small band of travelling support.
Delighted head coach Jim Henderson said: I am very proud of all my players this season for their effort and determination both on game day and at training.
To come this distance and to win in such an emphatic manner is very satisfying. President Gerry Brady added: It is a great day for Whitecraigs and to secure two titles in successive years is wonderful.
Craigs will be presented with the trophy after their final league game of the season, which is at home to Newton Stewart on March 28.
