THE cream of Whitecraigs squash talent was on show on Saturday for the annual club championship finals.
With four keenly contested matches, the crowded gallery of spectators were treated to a spectacle of action.
First up was the inaugural Junior final which saw Harry Anderson defeat Angus Neilson 3-2, after fighting back from a 2-1 deficit.
A fantastic glass trophy, donated by the club's squash convener Archie Pollock, was raised aloft by Harry for what could be the first of many triumphs.
Next on court was the closely matched pair of Alvar Kenwell and Brian Duffy in the affectionately named Tin Bashers contest and after a hard-fought match it was Alvar who came out on top with a 3-1 victory.
The plate competition – for those players knocked out in the first round of the main draw – was won 3-0 by Stephen McCormick.
David Goldring, a gold medal winner at the Maccabiah Games, gave his all but the power of McCormick was too much for him to handle.
With just the main championship final left to come the spectators were ready for the action and
in a repeat of last year's final Dougie Emery took on Matt Anderson, looking to avenge defeat from twelve months ago and
after a gruelling 1hour 20 minute match Dougie, who had celebrated becoming a dad to Oscar just days earlier, prevailed 3-1.
It is the 14th title that Dougie has won at Whitecraigs and now it is time for the club's promising juniors to come through and challenge for the crown!
