Volunteering

Whitecraigs is run entirely by volunteers. We are nothing without people who give up their precious time to make the Club what it is. We appreciate that time is one of the most precious things anyone can give and we fully appreciate that everyone has competing demands of busy lifestyles. All we ask is to contribute the club what you can and we will not overburden anyone with roles they feel they cannot fulfil. Giving what you can and providing assistance is all we ask.

There are a huge number of volunteering roles that might not be immediately obvious for a Rugby Club over and above knowledge of the game. Take a look at the following and see if there is anything you can offer:

Committee – please don’t be frightened by Committees…! We’re actually quite normal and simply wish the best interests of the Club to be served. If you can contribute in any way, we’d like to hear from you.

Playing – it’s not just First XV, Second XV and Youth Rugby, there’s Rhinos for the over 35’s and we also would love to see more ladies at the Club playing.

Coaching – even if you haven’t played, you may bring something to the game that no one has ever thought about. We’d like to hear new ideas.

Refereeing – how many times have you criticised a match official?! Well how about doing it yourself? We’ll sponsor you through the relevant courses.

First Aid/Physio – we always need First Aiders and would be happy to put you through the relevant course if this benefits the Club.

Catering – to keep our costs down to benefit other parts of the Club if we provide our own catering this saves external costs. Catering is required for match days, training days, events and it allows regular kitchen users time off to help elsewhere.

Administration – there are always a large number of administrative tasks required and anyone who is interested should contact us and advise us of their skill.

Fundraising/Sponsorship – there are hundreds of funding opportunities that simply take time and effort to assemble and submit. The Club has benefited from a number of external funding awards, however, with additional help, we can apply for more.

Maintenance – if you are handy with tools there are always maintenance jobs of varying complexities to be carried out around our premises. This saves a huge amount of time and costs – are you a painter, joiner, plumber, electrician, or general handy person who can help.

Ambassador – would you like to represent the Club in any way? This could be a “meeter and greeter” on match day, home and away.

Child Protection – we are always looking for people who can help implement our Child Protection Policy, which is under close scrutiny and requires particular input.

Social – the Club is all about fun and enjoying a healthy lifestyle. We are entirely family orientated and we would like to see family events and the Membership using the Clubhouse as a second home. f you have ideas about social, or fundraising nights, please let us know – although ideas are great, we need you to implement them.

Litter Picking – the premises is not immune from litter droppers, so feel free to pick up anything that would be better in a bin.

Kit Recycling – children grow so quick that their kit becomes small all too soon, so please take part in our kit exchange and we can make some cash for the Club as well as saving waste.

Community – we are part of the wider Newton Mearns Community and wish to involve ourselves by contributing to the Community. This could be in local schools, care homes, picking litter in parks and giving back to our community. Help is required in any way.

Public Relations/IT/Social Media – would you be interested in promoting the Club, providing publicity, Tweeting, posting Facebook news, getting our message out there of who we are and what we offer?

Anything You Can Think Of – if you have an idea, let us know, but be prepared to help put into place that idea, otherwise it has to be taken up by an existing member.

The most important thing about our request for volunteers is that we will not overcommit you, we will support everyone who comes to lend a hand. You will not be left on your own, that’s not how the Club works, however, all we ask is for your time to help what is already a really good thing, where it could be even better with more hands to make lighter work.
