Today was the first playable home game of 2025 and it was a tough prospect against second top of the table (on points difference) Ardrossan Academicals.

Ardrossan having only lost one game this season so far at home v the league leaders Strathmore, Whitecraigs opponents next Saturday.

Whitecraigs confidently took the game to Ardrossan from kickoff. The possession, movement and physical ball carries of Whitecraigs was troubling the visitors. Whitecraigs scored early just inside 2 minutes (unconverted) to lead and lay down a dominant marker to match their rugby.

Ardrossan who always pose a threat when awarded penalties kicked two to lead at half time 5-6. This was going to be a long physical close game needing steely focus and discipline.

Whitecraigs continued their commanding performance into the second half battling hard to score in the right corner on 47 minutes to reclaim the lead 10-6.

Ardrossan , ever dangerous, scored and converted on 65 minutes setting up a tense closing 15 minutes for Whitecraigs.

The score now 10-13, Ardrossan could sense victory but with Whitecraigs playing their ‘A’ game had more to contribute to this game. And yes they did. After a few minutes defending inside their 22 metre against determined Ardrossan, Whitecraigs regained possession via a scrum broke deep into the Ardrossan half with only minutes left on the clock of the 80.

Next it was something special down the right with 3 minutes left. It had all the qualities, physical, direct, team work and ball to hands. Then TRY! , 77 minutes and converted with the 80 minutes gone. Only stoppage time to play which seemed like an eternity as Ardrossan were perusing the winning try with Whitecraigs stepping up with solid defending.

Whitecraigs gained possession on their 5 meter from a scrum and the ball was ejected out the pitch from their dead ball to bank 3 points deserving of their performance.

Congratulations to the 2xv on a fantastic 66-10 home win V Lanarkshire 2xv who now sitting up the league table in 3rd place.
