Whitecraigs came out the blocks quick with an early converted try on two minutes and continued to dominate for the first 10minutes of the game. Ardrossan managed to work their way out their half after a sustained period of pressure by Whitecraigs. The visitors scored and converted on 15 minutes on their first attacking period. The teams exchanged blows to half time for a tight 17-19 half time score, setting up an enthralling second half.

Ardrosssn had a fast start to the second half scoring three tries in the first 12 minutes to lead 17 - 40. The game looked a step too far for Whitecraigs. However, then the game did become enthralling. The Mighty treated the home support to a ferocious final 25 minutes, demonstrating the heart and determination of the team, and some fantastic rugby.

The come back was on, try bonus and losing bonus in sight the minimum target. Then with Whitecraigs sixth try with six minutes to go and the score 34-40, the victory was possible. The players and supporters believed it was possible. Whitecraigs on the ascendancy in the final minutes, Ardrossan awarded a penalty and kick for touch to end the game 34-40.
