The U15 played Dumfries in the Bowl final today and it proved to be a very tight game. In the two previous encounters this season we came out on top, but today it was not to be, some wasteful play in good areas ultimately cost us the game. Congratulations to Dumfries, they played well, represented their club with pride and proved again that they are terrific bunch (supporters, coaches and all).
It was a very tight game (did I already say that?), Whitecraigs turning 7-5 up at half time. The U15 rucking was fantastic, regularly driving the Dumfries off the ball and up front Andy and Munro excelled. The pack in general were immense, Mikey, Sabba and Oli had the upper hand in the scrums, Daniel M, Jacob and Harry tackled and carried well, it was an even first half but we edged the stats on territory and possession. In the backs Charlie and Fin were solid and inventive, in midfield Alex B and Max were outstanding, both tackling well and max with his usual trademark breaks. Daniel K, Jamie and Tom were doing more attacking than defending, but when they did have to defend they were excellent, Tom in attack was committed and direct, coming so close to breaking through to score.
A single score in the second half ultimately brought victory to the visitors, however we were camped in their 22 for the last 10 minutes and just couldn't find the final pass. Sam, Lee, Matthew A, Mikhail, Calum, Scott, Daniel C all came on and never missed a beat, they slotted in seamlessly and kept the standards high.
A big thank you to all the support today and throughout the season (and a special call out to Clive who travelled from Wales and at last managed to catch a game). It is always disappointing to lose a final, especially one so close, however all the boys represented the club, themselves and their families well today. Well done and thank you for the effort!!
