Lung bustin' effort to finish the season

Garnock L 19 - 12
Kilmarnock W 31 - 10
Birkmyre L 28 - 24

A first 7 aside tournament for the U15 and a couple of close run games. As a squad we had really only had one practice session, but we played some enterprising rugby and on another day could have left with the trophy.

In out first game we sped into a 12 - 0 lead and then squandered two chances down the left touch line. At half time we were in control, but somehow managed to ship 3 tries, the winning one coming with the last play. I am not sure how we lost, but we did. Not the best start.

The second match against Kilmarnock was better, 6 tries with Alex B getting on the score sheet for the first time. Jamie tackled well (starting to get into his defensive groove), Jacob and Lee played some tidy stuff linking well, Munro and Daniel M made some nice breaks, but it was Charlie and Harry who added a brace of tries each that allowed us to stretch the lead. Matthew A was looking mega with the ball and was really solid in defence. Skipper Mikey also got on the score sheet, the defence did well to tame his rampaging runs. Fin was balanced in attack, chipped over 5 conversions and stood tall in defence against some big lads. A well deserved win.

Our final game was against Birkmyre who we narrowly lost to recently. They had won all their games, the winner went to the final. We took an early lead with Harry showing some great pace to run in scores from his own half for a quick fire brace, Birkmyre came back we be turned in the lead with Charlie adding another score. In the second period it was again very even, some good tackling, good turnovers and Charlie scampered in for his 5th score of the day. We were leading by 3 going into injury time, we were penalised twice for rucking (I couldn't see anything other than good technique and with Fin lying injured the broke through and scored with the last play. As in the first game I am not sure how we lost, but in 7s that is the way if goes sometimes. So we had to watch Birkmyre easily winning the final. The team were disappointed, which is ok, it will give us some motivation for next season. Well done to all who made it today, it has been another great season and we have again seen the team develop, all our defeats this season have been close, so we can be proud no matter who we have played we have always been competitive and given our supporters something to cheer. I hope everyone enjoys the off season, the coaches are looking forward to a rest. We will go again next season, we are already working with our new Development Officer to get better structure and better quality training programmes developed and provide a platform for continuing our development as a team and as individuals. Many thanks for everyone's efforts and support this season, it has been a real pleasure to be a small part of the lives of all the players. We would like to stay a huge thank you to you as parents for bringing the boys rain or shine and also a big thank you to the boys who are a fantastic bunch to work with and do you all proud with the attitude and effort. Enjoy the summer!!
