Youth Rugby with free trials for under 18 year olds 5 of 5

5. How to Join Youth Rugby at Whitecraigs

Joining Whitecraigs Rugby Club is designed to be simple, welcoming and pressure-free for both parents and young players. Children are encouraged to come along, have fun, make friends and try rugby before committing to membership.

Below is a step-by-step guide to how the process works for all youth age groups, from Micros through to Under 18s.

Step 1: Come Along and Try Rugby

We offer a free one-month trial period for all new youth players. Training sessions run weekly, allowing children to attend multiple sessions before deciding whether rugby is right for them.

There is no obligation to join during the trial period. Our focus is on helping children enjoy rugby in a safe, supportive environment.

Step 2: Tell Us About Your Child

Before attending the first training session, parents or guardians are asked to complete a short registration form. This helps us hold essential information such as emergency contact details and ensures your child is placed in the correct age group.

All youth registrations are managed centrally by our Development Officer.

Register your child here: Youth Player Registration Form

Once submitted, Andy (Development Officer) will be in touch to confirm training details and next steps.

Step 3: Training Sessions

Training takes place at Whitecraigs Rugby Club. During the winter months, some sessions may move indoors to local facilities.

What to bring:

  • Outdoor boots are required for all outdoor training
  • Gumshields are recommended and will be required for any contact sessions
  • No other specialist equipment is needed for initial sessions

Age groups are based on school year, and players will be allocated to the appropriate team when they join.

Step 4: Ready to Play Matches? Register with SCRUMS

Once your child is ready to take part in matches, they must be registered on SCRUMS, Scottish Rugby’s official player management system. This ensures your child is correctly associated with Whitecraigs Rugby Club and covered by SRU insurance for match play.

Register on SCRUMS: SCRUMS Login

Step 5: Join Whitecraigs Rugby Club

After the trial period, if your child wishes to continue, membership can be completed online. This gives access to all club benefits, training, matches and events.

Step 6: Playing Kit and Club Shop

Once registered, players can purchase official club kit through our online shop. At the start of each season, the club also runs a kit exchange, helping families manage costs as children grow.
