2. Youth Rugby — Micros & Minis for ages 5-12 at Whitecraigs


At Whitecraigs Rugby Club, membership is about more than just rugby. It is about being part of a welcoming, family-focused club where players of all ages can develop skills, confidence and friendships in a safe and supportive environment.

Whether you are a parent introducing your child to rugby for the first time, or a player looking for a positive club atmosphere, membership offers real benefits both on and off the pitch.

Micros Rugby (Ages 5–7)

Our Micros programme introduces children to rugby through fun, inclusive and non-contact sessions designed to build confidence and enjoyment.

Benefits for Micros players:

  • Non-contact rugby focused on fun, participation and movement
  • Games that develop coordination, balance and teamwork
  • Introduction to basic rugby skills such as passing and chasing
  • A friendly environment that encourages social development
  • Coaching led by trained and supportive volunteers

Training information:

  • Training takes place on Wednesday evenings
  • Sessions last approximately 1 hour
  • Training is held outdoors at Whitecraigs
  • During winter months, some sessions move indoors to local facilities
  • Rugby boots are required for outdoor training
  • No other equipment is needed

Minis Rugby (Ages 8–12)

The Minis section builds on the foundations of Micros rugby, gradually introducing more structured play while maintaining a strong focus on enjoyment and development.

Benefits for Minis players:

  • Age-appropriate rugby with increasing levels of contact from P4 to P7
  • Development of core rugby skills including passing, tackling and teamwork
  • Structured coaching that builds confidence and resilience
  • Opportunities to take part in matches throughout the season
  • A strong sense of belonging within a team environment

Training information:

  • Training takes place on Wednesday evenings
  • Sessions last approximately 1.5 hours
  • Training is held outdoors at Whitecraigs
  • During winter months, some sessions move indoors to local facilities
  • Outdoor training requires rugby boots and a gumshield
  • Training and matches broadly run from August to May
